sound 2When I first saw spy pics of Soundwave in january i was shocked..the design was a radical departure from the tape deck character we all know. But, this design works for the film..his disguise is a communications satellite. in short Soundwave rocks! lots of detail here.

He is one Devilish looking decepticon the design retains his G1 style head(great touch takara/hasbro !) the color scheme is reminiscent of his g1 days also. he is quite poseable and is well built…i like his claws and his arms they wanted the movie transformers to look totally alien, and they succeded..

He also comes with ravage that launches from him ( ala g1 days) ravage as you know is the cassette Kitty that is loyal to soundwave..however hes not transformable…perhaps a later version will have a transformable one because hes in the film. mabey laserbeak too? one can only hope:)

Soundwave, is one of my favorite Decepticons, and i think they did a nice job on him..hes worth getting. like Optimus prime, hes hard to get..i went to 2 stores before i landed 2 of him (one to open and one to keep sealed in the package)

Pros:
Its soundwave!
Good articulation
Movie accurate detail in all modes

Cons:
Ravage is non transformable (they probably did this to keep the price lower)

If you can find soundwave, grab him..hes worth checking out. (hope they keep his cool monotonic voice for the movie, like prime’s the voice is classic)

Keep this one away from little Johnny, hes a bit fragile and you know how kids are careless sometimes…these are made for the collector and rightfully so..

bee2 Transformers Movie 2 Ultimate Bumblebee!Regrettably perhaps, I have both versions of this toy. I would like to see different Ultimate toys (most notably Optimus Prime) in the future. This seems like the next-generation of transformers in many ways, with the animatronics and the audio content. But aside from that, purely as a transformer, it’s still quite worthy to own. Large, very realistic, good detail. Not so easy to transform, especially as some of the connections need some carefully-applied force to engage/disengage (a knife can be useful). But not bad once you do it a couple times. The instructions are much better than nothing, and half the satisfaction is figuring out for yourself how to get from one step to the next.

The car mode is fun, and of course you can spin the one wheel to keep the audio going if you want to pass on rolling it around, but the skids are easier with the latter approach. Robot mode, as noted in another review, seems to fail full expectations. Yes, I have the same problem with mine as mentioned – it seems unresponsive to sound or motion, and shuts down after 30 seconds or so if no button is pressed. Interestingly, I don’t have the same issue with the first model. If I stand them facing each other and set them off, the earlier model will respond and continue interaction while the newer one obliviously quits unless prodded. Did they leave this feature out on the newer one?

As for the content, both models reflect their respective movie roles. I happen to like the earlier one better, but it’s a matter of taste. The doors fit better on the newer one, and the mask is cool but a hassle to get on. The Ultimate Bumblebee is a worthy addition to a collection, and many won’t care if the thing won’t respond unless you push a button. The new technology takes the transformer into a more pure “toy” mode, where it doesn’t perhaps stand out from the non-transforming competition. But it certainly opens a new dimension for the many-faceted transformers.

bee3 Transformers Movie 2 Ultimate Bumblebee! If you care about the responsiveness issue, might prefer a more musical, less serious audio content, and can tolerate some possible door issues, you might consider spending a few extra bucks and get the earlier model.

OVERALL: A very good figure that I’d recommend picking up if you’re considering it. It’s a great deal of fun, and the animatronics do make him seem a little more real than a normal figure. My kids love when I get Ultimate Bumblebee out, and even my wife has been telling me how cool she thinks it is, which is a first for her with any Transformer figure.

* Unleash shifting battle armor courtesy of MECH ALIVE gearing in robot mode
* Super sleek Corvette Stingray concept car in vehicle mode – get ready to roll out

Sideswipe is one of the hip new autobots who will appear in the Revenge of the Fallen movie. According to the packaging he likes close combat and is a sword expert.

side 2For kids:
This guy is a sweet ride. He’s a silver Corvette concept with blue windows and is probably one of the sportiest cars in the line. He transforms fairly easily but has tons of little bits and parts that move and come apart and go together. Because of this he doesn’t seem quite as durable to me as some of the others. His swords are one of the coolest “mech-alive” features I’ve seen yet though and he’s got a pretty cool looking robot form. I think he might frustrate younger kids but most kids will like both the car and robot forms.

For adults:
This guy is still a sweet ride. I even want to drive him around and make engine noises. He is painted silver instead of just molded in a certain color and this makes him pop visually. The downside is that over time I see this paint job chipping around the edges and rubbing off on corners. Another down side is because his is an involved transformation and he’s such a bright color there are many visible seam lines.

His transformation isn’t difficult but it is intricate with many pieces of the body of the car that move and swivel and break apart. He feels a bit delicate but so far has proven durable. Still, if someone went a little nuts on him he might break easy.

side 3
Once in robot mode he looks pretty cool with a sleek head, his shoulders that are the rear fenders of the car and a couple of neat points of articulation action. He has pistons and sliding knee covers in his legs that move as you bend it at the knee and he has four hydraulic rods connecting his leg to his body that slide up and down as you move his legs. The rods are a soft material so they won’t snap. That’s all pretty neat. He does have a bit too much of the car stuck onto his back though to look fully streamlined. But the biggest complaint is his feet. They look fine but the wheels are at bottom (as in his feet don’t sit flat on the ground) which makes standing him up a bit of a chore as you have to wiggle him and his feet around to find balance.

His swords are two thin strips of the doors attached to each elbow. The cool part is if you grab one of the two and pull it around in an arc toward the front of his arm the other one swings in the opposite direction automatically via a cool little gear set up. They meet right in front to form the sword on each arm. It’s a cool mechanism and works well. Plus you can take the two parts of the sword part way to make double swords or scissor like weapons or half way to make a shield like weapon. It’s versatile and can be used to change up the look.

This is a tough one, I’ll rate him four but three and a half would be fair too due to his inability to stand well, many seam lines, his chipping paint job and his delicate nature. Then again he looks cool and has those swords…

mega 2 Like the ROTF Leader Class Prime, this Megatron is a big improvement over his first movie Leader Class incarnation. The detail is much improved, I like that he turns into something that we have seen Megatron as in past cartoons, and the design in robot mode is much closer to that which is seen in the original G1 cartoon. The tank mode is awesome, almost looking better than robot mode. The transformation is actually not that bad, something that if a little kids wants to they could do. The only problem is maybe needing a little muscle. Having Hugo Weaving’s voice is cool. The cannon noise gets a little annoying with every time you turn the gun arm. Overall, a pretty good Megatron.

I love this figure. The legs are took me a couple times to figure out but are pretty simple after you transform him a couple times. I really wished they would of given more articulation to the tank arm. This figure isn’t too hard to transform compared to Optimus but if you’re going to get Optimus, why not Megatron?

op3 300x300 TRANSFORMERS Movie 2: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN Power Up OPTIMUS PRIME and JETFIRE

I’ve been collecting transformers since I was a kid and if there’s one thing I’ve ALWAYS hated about the toys up until now, it’s that the product never accurately matched up with the character on the screen. Now, keep in mind that back in my day, things like what we see in CGI films like Transformers weren’t at all possible…but Takara Tomy finally broke that depressing streak with THIS figure. This has got to be the most impressive example of planning upon planning for a perfected design that features an extremely complex transformation (at first)- but after the first few times you get the steps down pretty easily (only took me a few days).

If you compare the 2007 model/version of this figure to the newly redesigned 09′ model- you’ll see a SIGNIFICANT difference in character comparison. This IS Optimus Prime, not just some inaccurate toy, it’s so close to the CGI character that I don’t see any mistakes in the design- if anything it’s PERFECT. Every detail matches up with the CGI design so well that it’s just AWSOME! The toy is durable, AND when you transform it, parts don’t rub against each other and mess up the paint job- which i know some perfectionist collectors ABSOLUTELY hate. Buy this figure, because I honestly don’t think you’ll ever find another TF product this close to character/toy accuracy!

BUT, i will say this- if you’re a real collector and you want character/toy accuracy…go with the Takara Tomy version instead of the Hasbro version. The Takara Tomy version’s name is RA-01 Optimus Prime and you can find him on the web in plenty of online stores. Get that version, because if you look closely you’ll see that it’s paintjob is actually correct while Hasbro’s model has some of it’s parts painted red instead of silver- don’t settle for that lol. Mkay, well- happy hunting and have fun with this product!

Alternate View

op 4When I first spied leaked photos of this figure, it was difficult to imagine they could make such a toy transform tightly into the truck that we all know. This one must be seen (or better, physically handled) to be believed! The transformation is amazing, and more intricate than anything before seen in the movie lines (and probably in any Transformers line, actually, ‘cept perhaps some of the Masterpieces).

Plastics seem to be a little better than the first movie Prime, and the paints are finely done as well. Super poseable and stable. Parts are easy to pop-off, but pop back easily as well (which if you accept, puts the durability to at least 4 stars). Sounds are improved, with a line from Peter Cullen this time round. And the best thing? It’s probably as movie accurate as possible, short of making a bigger toy!

Negatives? Well, the wheels are now plastic (not rubber), and have a habit of going out of line in truck mode. The fingers/thumb are no longer articulated. The head doesn’t really look up (mainly side-to-side). The Transformation will test most adults, let alone children! And the way some pieces pop-off may be annoying to some buyers.

Despite the negatives, though, this is one amazing figure, and can be very highly recommended. If you only get one Revenge of the Fallen figure, then make it Leader class Optimus Prime!
